My third car was one of the true "muscle cars" of the 1960's. I traded my 1962 Ford in on a 1967 Plymouth GTX (think I bought it in the fall of 1966), 2 dr hardtop, 4 speed manual trans, positraction, bucket seats, red with white interior; this baby had a 440 cubic inch engine putting out 375 screaming horsepower. This was the first car I ordered special from the factory. I will never forget the day it was delivered to the dealer. I passed right by the dealership every day on the way to work at Brookley AFB. One morning I passed by and saw a red Plymouth GTX being unloaded from the hauler. Oh, no! Here I was heading to work (I was in a carpool) and my special order car had come in! Needless to say, I was able to leave work early (as I recall, I walked back a good part of the way). I believe this car had the sweetest sound coming from the twin exhaust system. Was music to my ears! This was truly one of the best sports cars I have ever owned. By the time I purchased this one, my driving habits had changed a bit for the better. Although I did do occasional burnouts, I took pretty good care of these wheels.
The below pic was taken shortly after I bought the car, May 1967. Couldn't wait
to show it off at my parents' house in Clarke Co., MS
