1973 Pontiac GTO (New)

In 1973, I bought another new car, a 1973 Pontiac GTO, 400 CID engine, 4-speed manual, AC, blue. This was the last year Pontiac made the GTO in the Lemans body style. The next year, it was downsized. I kept this car nearly 10 years and turned the keys over to my son Mark when he graduated from high school. He tore the engine down himself and made some modifications. A Crane cam and solid lifters were among the new stuff. Unfortunately, he wrecked the car later and it died a horrible death in Mobile, AL (where he went to find work). It was parked at one of his friend's houses; parts were stolen from it and in the end it was just a shell of junk metal. Probably went to the crusher later.

In 1976, Carolyn and I took a vacation trip out west in the GTO. I have included some pics below from the trip. The car performed beautifully. I suspect we put close to 5000 miles on it on that little excursion.

Below photo was taken the same year I bought the car, 1973, at my parents' house, Clarke Co., MS

2
I don't have a date on the below photo, but probably was taken in 1973 or 1974 at my parents' house.

3
The below long shot taken at my parents' house. Unsure of the year.

4
Below pic was taken in 1976 somewhere out west. Carolyn and I took a vacation that year and visited a number of states. The GTO performed beautifully on the 5000 mile trip.

5
Below is another shot of the car on the 1976 trip. This may have been in New Mexico, but not sure.

6
I pretty sure the below shot was taken in the Rocky Mountains, probably in Colorado.

Below shot taken in February 1977 when we had one of our rare snows in Clarke Co. MS. That's Carolyn standing by the "Goat."
