Individual data contained on this page may be used for personal, non-profit purposes; however the entire page or portions thereof may NOT be copied, cut'n'pasted, downloaded, or otherwise duplicated for any reason, including posting elsewhere, without express permission of the compiler above.

Manassa Methodist Church and Cemetery are located in eastern Clarke Co., MS. From Quitman, take State Highway 18 East for 1.2 miles; veer right on State Highway 511 South and travel 8.4 miles. Church and cemetery are on the left. There is a chain link fence around the cemetery. The photo at left was taken at the entrance, looking west. The church is to the right, out of camera range. At the entrance to the church, a sign shows the following: "Burial site for Katherine McQuaig Carmichael born in Virginia 1794, died in Miss. in 1882. She was wife of Archibald Carmichael and they migrated from Dillon, S. C. about 1835 with their 7 children. Her youngest child Michael is here too. Another son Dougald McIntosh had a son John J. who gave this land for the church and cemetery. Her husband Archibald is buried in Crandall on edge of Buckatuna swamp. He died in 1844."

We have shown dates in the DDMMMYYYY format for easier reading. The (double marker) note means two separate headstones with surname between resting on a double base. The (double base) means two separate headstones (with full names) resting on a double base. Row numbers were determined as best as we could using the cemetery layout and may not necessarily agree with any other compilation (if any) or official cemetery records. Abbreviations used here are as follows: BB = Brick Border; CB = Concrete Border; CS = Concrete Slab; DM = Double Marker; DBS = Double Base; FHM = Funeral Home Marker; FM = Foot Marker; FS = Foot Stone; GB = Granite Border; GS = Granite Slab.

We have tried diligently to copy all inscriptions accurately; however, there is no guarantee that this work is 100% correct. If anyone sees an obvious error, please do not hesitate to let us know. All rows were read from left to right.
