From my book, Cemetery Inscriptions of Clarke County, Mississippi, Vol. I

Individual data contained on this page may be used for personal, non-profit purposes; however the entire page or portions thereof may NOT be copied, cut'n'pasted, downloaded, or otherwise duplicated for any reason, including posting elsewhere, without express permission of the compiler above.

McLemore Cemetery is located in northern Clarke Co., MS; northeast of Quitman, MS. Take US Highway 145 North from Quitman for 10.2 miles; turn right on County Road 514 and travel about 1.4 miles; turn right on County Road 148 and travel about 1.4 miles; turn left on County Road 474 (dirt). Cemetery is on the left near the top of the hill, about 50 feet off the dirt road. A path leads to the cemetery. There is a chain link fence around the cemetery. (Please note that County Road 474 is not a thruway; a gate closes the road a few hundred feet beyond the cemetery; also the cemetery property is believed to be privately owned by the FONTAINE family). As evidenced by the photo at left, which was taken near the center looking northwest, the cemetery desperately needs to be cleaned. There are clumps of bushes and small saplings throughout the cemetery, especially in the back half.

We have shown dates in the DDMMMYYYY format for easier reading. The (double marker) note means two separate headstones with surname between resting on a double base. The (double base) means two separate headstones (with full names) resting on a double base. Row numbers were determined as best as we could using the cemetery layout and may not necessarily agree with any other compilation (if any) or official cemetery records. Abbreviations used here are as follows: BB = Brick Border; CB = Concrete Border; CS = Concrete Slab; DM = Double Marker; DBS = Double Base; FHM = Funeral Home Marker; FM = Foot Marker; FS = Foot Stone; GB = Granite Border; GS = Granite Slab.

We have tried diligently to copy all inscriptions accurately; however, there is no guarantee that this work is 100% correct. If anyone sees an obvious error, please do not hesitate to let us know. All rows were read from left to right.
