W. C. DEDWYLDER
CCT, Friday, 4 Jan 1929
W. C. DEDWYLDER, Harmony community, succumbed Wednesday to the ravages of the flu. Confined to bed two weeks. His age together with the stubbornness of the disease caused him to fight a losing battle this time. But, "Uncle Chris" seldon lost in his fights with the odds of life. You have heard of the man who didn't have a "lazy bone in his body." Well, the subject of this brief appreciation was that sort of man. Perhaps nobody in the county (unless it be his brother, Wilke) ever did more hard and persistent work. In sunshine and cloudy weather--it was all the same with Chris DEDWYLDER. At the time of his death, the writer would judge he was not far from 80. His good wife preceded him several years ago. Survivors - three children, Miss Donnie, Mrs. Charley REID, and O. C. DEDWYLDER; one brother, I. Wilke, Cleveland, MS. Funeral services conducted Thursday with interment in McGowan's Chapel cemetery.

Mrs. Dora E. BONEY
CCT, Friday, 11 Jan 1929
Note --A tribute to the above beloved woman for some reason was never written. The present writer was recently requested to present a sketch of her life, hence the apparent delay. Among the very pleasant memories of childhood is the recollection of new neighbors moving into the Harmony community from Choctaw Co., AL. The mother and wife, Mrs. Dora BONEY, with other members of the family immediately identified themselves with the McGowan's Chapel church. (There are several more paragraphs to this tribute). Sixty seven years and three months marked her span of usefulness. Much of this time was fraught with pain; and, yet, almost to the end the generous spirit prompted to many friends of kindness. Finally, last October when 1928 was being adorned with the riches of an Autumnal day, this splendid woman donned a robe of righteousness and bade farewell to the earthly house of this tabernacle. Rev. Joshua Phillips, Shubuta, conducted the funeral rites, and afterwards the remains were interred in McGowan's Chapel cemetery by the side of the husband, the late Chas. E. BONEY. Survivors - Pedro, H. C. and R. C. BONEY, Quitman, MS; Mesdames Osmond SCOTT, Riderwood, AL and D. W. SINCLAIR, Quitman, MS.

"Uncle Dock" REID, Colored
CCT, Friday, 25 Jan 1929
Among the highly respected ex-slaves in Clarke Co., none stood higher in the esteem of practically all the people--both white and colored--then did "Uncle Dock" REID. This almost typically Southern Negro passed away at his humble home a few miles south of Quitman this week. "Uncle Dock", as everyone knew him, was nearing the 100th anniversary of his life. Until stricken with extreme old age, he was active every day in the year. There wasn't a "lazy bone" in his anatomy--and no job was ever thought of in terms of hnrd work. If all the ditches he dug were placed in a line, nobody can tell how nearly their combined length would come reaching across the county. He was humble, respectful, appreciative, optimistic, and faithful. The Tribune joins all the people of Quitman who knew intimately this fineold ex-slave in the expression of our appreciation of his humble life.
