Miss Sallie BRUNSON
CCT, Friday, 1 Jan 1932
Miss Sallie BRUNSON passed away suddenly at the old Brunson homestead near Union church Christmaa afternoon. Had been in bad health more than two years, practically bedridden as the result of a fall she sustained in which she fractured the hip bone. For months, she suffered intense pain, and while she recovered sufficiently to walk about the place a little, she was never herself again. Was a member of the big Brunson family of Clarke and Lauderdale counties. Member of Union Church. The writer of this appreciation was asked to say a few words in memory of this elect lady; and among other facts stated was this: I have been twice the pastor of this congregation and have assisted in nine revivals here, and this is the first time I have ever been within these walls in any sort of a religious service that Miss Sallie wasn't there. Ah, she was a great and good woman! The Meridian Star carried the following news item Sunday morning: "Funeral services for Miss Sallie BRUNSON, 71, who died suddenly at her residence on the Quitman Road Friday afternoon, were held Saturday afternoon, 2 PM, Union church, with intermenr in the church cemetery, Rev. E. C. Hendricks officiating, assisted by Revs. B. C. Land and R. S. Gavin. Pallbearers - six nephews, Jim McNEAL, Curtis Cameron, Willy Webb Brunson, Leo Brunson, Grady Brunson." Arrangements by Hulett.

"Uncle Johnnie" BALLARD
CCT, Friday, 22 Jan 1932
(Note: This article was mostly a tribute and did not name any survivors. Below is a few things mentioned in the writeup.)
The spirit of "Uncle Johnnie" BALLARD broke away from its earthly home in which for more than 80 years it had tabernacled, and took its flight to the world of spirit. For many years, he had been a familiar figure on the street of Quitman. He went about scattering sunshine. This writer never saw him scattering gloom. He was not rich in this world's goods, but one would hardly discover the fact from his conversation. He appeared as bright and seemed as happy as if he had owned millions. He had anticipated the end for weeks before it came. "I have been hoeing on my row for a long time, and I am almost to the end of it," he said only a few weeks before he passed to his reward. Services in his memory were held from the Quitman Baptist church, the church of his membership, Sunday afternoon, 2:30. The pastor, Rev. B. C. Land, was assisted by Rev. T. A. Ferguson, pastor of the Quitman Methodist Church. The body was interred in the _____ cemetery. J. K. Kirkland Funeral Department in charge of arrangements.
