accident occurred near York when Mr. GILBERT who was standing on the truck fell. The vehicle passed over

FORMER STATE OFFICIAL DIES
Jackson -- Walker WOOD, Jackson, 82, former secretary of state and newspaper editor, died in a local
hospital Sunday night after an illness of several weeks. Was appointed to secretary of state post in 1926
and served for 22 years, longer than any other man in the state history. From 1890-09, was editor of the
Tate County Democrat and edited the Winona Times until 1940. Also edited a paper in Oxford. Served as
president of National Assn. of Secretaries of State in 1945. Last December, he retired as director of the state
microfilm department after six years in the dept. Survivors - widow, the former Susie MEACHAM,
Senatobia; two daughters, Mrs. Hal SPRAGGINS, Jr., wife of the Tate County Democrat editor, and
Mrs. Richard D. LEFOLDT, Jackson; two sisters.
