Rev. William Owen CARTER, 78, died Thursday morning in Jackson where he had resided for 4? months. Had been in failing health for several months and his death was not unexpected. Was a native of Clarke Co., and was a retired Baptist minister. His last Pastorate was at New Prospect Church in Lincoln Co. Was a graduate of Clarke Memorial College, Mississippi College, and graduated from Southwestern Theological Seminary with the distinction of Magna Cum Laude. Had filled pastorates at Raymond, Bay Springs, Waynesboro, and Silver Creek. Prayer services held Saturday, 9 AM, Saulters Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. L. K? Green, Dr. W. H. Sharpe, and Rev. A. M. Schultz officiating. Body was carried to New Hope Baptist Church near Meridian where it lay in state from 12 noon until 2 PM, at which time funeral services held with Rev. W. L. Meadows, long time friend of the family, officiating, assisted by Rev. N. F. Greer. It was from this church he was ordained 50 years ago this month. Interment was in New Hope Cemetery with Saulters Funeral Home in charge. Nephews served as pallbearers. Survivors include wife, Mrs. Vivian WALKER CARTER, Jackson; three daughters, Mrs. J. P. STEINWINDER, Jackson; Mrs. D. Gray GRIFFITH, Prentiss; Mrs. Carl EDWARDS, Franklin, PA; two sons, W. O.
