Mrs. Villa Dell PICKARD SMITH, 57, Rt. 1, Vossburg, was killed, and her husband,
Lamar SMITH, was hospitalized when their pickup truck overturned Saturday at 6:30 AM,
eight miles southwest of Quitman. It was reported that Smith attempted to dodge a tree which
had blown across the road and lost control of his truck. They were enroute to Erwin Mills
where she was employed. Funeral services held Sunday, 2 PM, Walters Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Johnny Mosley officiated. Survivors (in
addition to husband) - son, Roger SMITH, Meridian; a granddaughter; two sisters,
Mrs. O. W. BUFFINGTON, Mrs. Nora TUCKER, both of Rt. 2, Quitman; a brother, Marvin
PICKARD, supervisor of Beat 4. Pallbearers - James Tucker, Jimmy Tucker, Harlon Tucker,

after extended illness. Retired postmaster and operated a grocery store in DeSoto for a

Wayne County. Born and reared in Waller Ridge Community, Beat 4; son of late Mrs. and

Distributors, Laurel; prior to that, employed with same company in Mobile, AL, where he lived
for around 12 years; member of Magnolia Street Baptist Church of Laurel. Survivors - wife,
