Funeral services held at Harmony Baptist Church Saturday, 29 Jan, 2:30 PM. Rev. Dennis Kennedy conducted the service assisted by Rev. Alfred Braddock, Quitman. Interment in McGowan Chapel Cemetery. Lifelong resident of the Harmony community and a member of Harmony Baptist Church. Survivors - three daughters, Miss Maurece McCARTY and Mrs. Mattie HARGROVE, Harmony; Mrs. Laura Nell WEST, Enterprise; eight grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren. Member of Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church, member of Jackson Chamber of Commerce, American Legion, and was a Mason.

Interment was in Quitman Cemetery under the direction of Wright Funeral Home. Died Sunday night at H. C. Watkins Memorial Hospital. Served in the Navy during WWII, was a retired captain of the Meridian Fire Department and organizer and founder of the Quitman Volunteer Fire Department, which began volunteer service in this area. Was Quitman chief of police and deputy sheriff for eight years. Was a member of the First United Methodist Church and chairman of the board of stewards, member of the Masonic Lodge, Terral 514 of the Hamasa Shrine Temple in Meridian and of the Quitman Shrine Club. Survivors include wife, Bessie A. BISHOP; one daughter, Mrs. Mary WOODS; one son, Wallace H. BISHOP, both of Meridian; a number of grandchildren.
